Anserine bursitis
  • Facts:
    Inflammation of the anserine bursa can result from abnormal gait, overuse or trauma
  • History / PE:
    Localized pain over the anteromedial tibia
    No redness, warmth, swelling, or other signs of acute inflammation
  • Diagnosis:
    Normal tibial xray, VALGUS testing
  • Treatment:
    Rest, ice
    Corticosteroid injections into bursa
  • Notes:
    Anserine bursa located anteromedially over tibial plateau just below the joint line of the knee
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    Patellofemoral syndrome (pain worsened by sitting or activity)
    Osgood-Schlatter disease (affects young kids)
