Facts
:
Inflammation of skin which may extend into deeper tissues
MCC are S. aureus and beta-hemolytic streptococci
History / PE
:
Erythematous, warm, tender, poorly demarcated swelling
High grade fever, chills, confusion (systemic signs)
Treatment
:
Oral dicloxacillin
(mild cellulitis)
IV nafcillin (systemic signs present)
Vancomycin
(in areas of highly prevalent MRSA)
Differential Diagnosis
:
Erysipelas
(superficial dermis, well demarcated)
