Croup Laryngotracheobronchitis

Croup
  • History / PE:
    Prodromal URI symptoms
    Barking cough (usually at night)
  • Diagnosis:
    "Steeple sign" on AP film (from subglottic narrowing)
  • Treatment:
    1) Supplemental oxygen, corticosteroids
    2) Racemic epinephrine
    3) ONLY intubate if patient fails to respond with epi
  • Associated With:
    Parainfluenza virus type 1 (MC), 2, and 3
    RSV
    Influenza
    Adenovirus
