Accounts for 15% of all thyroid cancer
More malignant than papillary thyroid carcinomas
Spreads hematogenouslsy
, metastasize to distal organs
History / PE
:
Hard, fixed, nontender thyroid nodule
Diagnosis
:
Fine needle aspiration biopsy
(FNAB) shows follicular cells
Hurthle cells (also in papillary cancer)
Treatment
:
Near total thyroidectomy with post op radioiodine ablation
Differential Diagnosis
:
Follicular adenoma (no blood vessel invasion)
