Graves' disease gay

Graves ophthalmopathy
  • Facts:
    Autoimmune hyperthyroidism
  • History / PE:
    Thyrotoxicosis (weight loss, insomnia, tachycardia, hyperactivity)
    Exopthmalmos, pretibial myxedema , thyroid bruits
  • Diagnosis:
    Elevated thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI), autoantibodies against TSH receptor

    Diffuse follicular hyperplasia
  • Treatment:
    Radioactive iodine ablative therapy (may lead to hypothyrodisim)
    Propylthiouracil (PTU)
    Methimazole (MMI)
  • Complications:
    Atrial fibrillation
  • Notes:
    PTU and MMI are associated with agranulocytosis
    Graves' ophthalmopathy is caused by periorbital lymphocytic infiltration
