Thyrotoxicosis (weight loss, insomnia, tachycardia, hyperactivity)
Exopthmalmos, pretibial
myxedema
, thyroid bruits
Diagnosis
:
Elevated
thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin
(TSI), autoantibodies against TSH receptor
Diffuse follicular hyperplasia
Treatment
:
Radioactive iodine ablative
therapy (may lead to hypothyrodisim)
Propylthiouracil (PTU)
Methimazole (MMI)
Complications
:
Atrial fibrillation
Notes
:
PTU and MMI are associated with agranulocytosis
Graves' ophthalmopathy is caused by
periorbital lymphocytic infiltration
