Guillain-Barre syndrome GBS

  • History / PE:
    Antecedent respiratory or GI infection
    Loss of DTRs, areflexia
    Ascending paralysis and weakness
    Facial nerve palsy
  • Diagnosis:
    Albumino-cytologic dissociation (CSF analysis)
  • Treatment:
    Plasmaphoresis, IVIG
  • Complications:
    Respiratory weakness (perform serial vital capacity checks)
  • Notes:
    No UMN signs (negative Babinski sign)
  • Associated With:
    Campylobacter jejuni
