Hepatic adenoma
  • Facts:
    Benign epithelial tumor of the liver that usually arise as a solitary mass in the right hepatic lobe
    Commonly seen in young and middle aged women on OCPs
  • History / PE:
    Abdominal, RUQ pain
    Palpable abdominal mass
    Jaundice
  • Diagnosis:
    Enlarged adenoma cells that contain glycogen and lipid
    Normal alpha-fetoprotein
  • Treatment:
    Conservative management
    Resection (if symptomatic)
  • Complications:
    Severe intra-tumor hemorrhage
    Malignant transformation
  • Associated With:
    Anabolic androgen use
    Glycogen storage disease
    Pregnancy
    DM
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    Focal nodular hyperplasia (Kupffer cells, sinusoids)
