Homocysteine

• Facts:
  HIghly reactive amino acid
  Metabolized to form either cysteine or methionine
  If either pathway disrupted, then elevated homocysteine levels
• Treatment:
  Folate and Vitamin B6 (decrease homocysteine levels)
• Complications:
  DVTs and atherosclerosis (increased levels)
