  • Facts:
    Primarily in premature infants
    Decreased surfactant, leads to atelectasis
  • History / PE:
    Tachypnea, retractions
    Respiratory distress becomes progressively worse
  • Diagnosis:
    Fine reticular granularity of lung parencyma (CXR)
  • Treatment:
    Antenatal prevention with steroids
    Early mechanical ventilation
    Surfactant administration
  • Associated With:
    Prematurity
    Maternal diabetes
