  • Facts:
    Functional disorder of bile formation that develops in the second and third trimester of pregnancy
  • History / PE:
    Intense pruritis
    Skin excoriations
    Jaundice
  • Diagnosis:
    Elevated serum aminotransferases
  • Treatment:
    Symptom relief (ursodeoxycholic acid)
    Early delivery (after lung maturity)
    Condition resolves soon after delivery
  • Complications:
    Fetal prematurity
    Intrauterine demise
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    Acute fatty liver of pregnancy (no jaundice)
    Primary sclerosing cholangitis
    Primary biliary cirrhosis
