Usually caused by chronic irritation to the oral mucosa due to smoking, alcohol, or ill fitting dentures
History / PE
:
Hard to remove white plaques
/patches on oral mucosa
Complications
:
Risk of transformation to
squamous cell carcinoma
Differential Diagnosis
:
Oral
candidiasis
(white plaques can be scraped off)
Herpes simplex virus type 1 (do not cause white plaques)
