  • Facts:
    Characterized by defective mineralization of bone, MC caused by vitamin D deficiency

    Seen in adults, after the closing of the epiphyseal growth plates

    Vitamin D deficiency leads to decreased intestinal calcium and phosphorus absorption
  • History / PE:
    Muscle weakness
    Diffuse body pains
    Pseudofractures, blurring of the spine (radiological findings)
  • Diagnosis:
    Low to low-normal serum calcium levels, hypophosphatemia
    Increased serum parathyroid hormone levels
  • Treatment:
    Vitamin D supplementation
    Calcium
    Phosphate
  • See Also:
