  • Facts:
    Infection of the bone
  • History / PE:
    Fever, chills
    Focal pain
  • Diagnosis:
    Grossly elevated ESR
    MRI (gold standard for evaluation)
  • Treatment:
    6-8 weeks of antibiotics
    Fluroquinolones (empiric treatment)
    Surgical debridement
  • Complications:
    1) Chronic osteomyelitis
    2) Septic arthritis
    3) Systemic sepsis
    4) Draining sinus tract, leading to SCC
  • Associated With:
    IV drug abuse
    Sickle cell disease
    Immunosuppression
