Bordetella pertussis
  • Facts:
    Transmission via respiratory droplets
  • History / PE:
    CATARRHAL phase
    Flu-like symptoms

    PAROXYSMAL phase
    Bursts of whooping (loud inspiratory) coughs
  • Treatment:
    1) Macrolide antibiotic (eg. erythromycin) to patient
    2) Erythromycin X 14 days to ALL close contacts
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    Asthma
