Cysticercosis Taenia solium

  • Facts:
    Parasitic disease caused by the larval stage of the pork tape worm T. Solium
    Contracted when a person consumes T. solium eggs excreted by another person
  • Complications:
    Neurocysticercosis (multiple, small fluid filled cysts in brain parenchyma)
  • Notes:
    Most common intermediate host is the pig
    Humans are the only definitive host for T. solium
