Ehrlichiosis

  • Facts:
    Tock borne illness
    AKA "spotless Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF)"
  • History / PE:
    Fever, malaise
    Myalgias
    Headaches
    Nausea, vomiting
  • Diagnosis:
    Leukopenia
    Intracellular inclusions in WBCs (morulae)
    Thrombocytopenia
    Elevated aminotransferases
  • Treatment:
    Doxycycline (also for RMSF and lyme disease )
    Chloramphenicol (pregnant women)
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    RMSF (rash, same tx though)
  • Risk Factors:
    Tick exposure
