Epididymitis

  • Facts:
    Infection / inflammation of the epididymis
  • History / PE:
    Fever, eythema
    Scrotal swelling
    Tender/enlarged testicles
  • Diagnosis:
    Decreased pain with scrotal elevation (+ Prehn's sign)
    UA, culture (pyuria)
    Normal to increased blood flow to testes (doppler U/S)
  • Treatment:
    ABX
    NSAIDs
  • Associated With:
    STIs (in younger patients)
    UTI from E.coli / gram - rod (older patients)
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    Testicular torsion (decreased blood flow to testes)
