  • Facts:
    MCC of hypothyroidism
    Autoantibody destruction of thyroid follicles
  • History / PE:
    Weight gain, hair loss
    Depression, fatigue
    Constipation
  • Diagnosis:
    Anti-thyroperoxidase (TPO) antibodies
    Anti-thyroglobulin antibodies
    Increased TSH, decreased T4/T3
    High cholesterol
  • Complications:
    Thyroid lymphoma (see rapid enlargement of the thyroid in patients with pre-existing Hashimoto's)
  • Associated With:
    Non- hodgkin's lymphoma
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    Secondary or tertiary hypothyroidism
    Thyroid hormone resistance (normal TSH, elevated T4/T3)
