  • Facts:
    Humans contact the infection from close contact with dogs (definitive hosts)
  • History / PE:
    Generally asymptomatic
    May have symptoms relating to surrounding cyst compression
  • Diagnosis:
    Unilocular cystic lesion in any organ
    Eggshell calcifications
    Multiple cysts (E. multilocularis)
  • Treatment:
    Surgical resection under cover of albendazole
  • Notes:
    Aspiration of cyst is not indicated because of risk of spilling cystic contents and resultant anaphylactic shock
