Neutropenic enterocolitis Typhlitis

  • Facts:
    Acute life-threatening condition
    Characterized by transmural inflammation of the cecum, often with involvement of the ascending colon and ileum, in patients who are severely myelosuppression
  • History / PE:
    Mimics acute appendicitis
    Right lower quadrant abdominal pain
    Fever
    Watery or bloody diarrhea
    Nausea, vomiting
    Abdominal distention
  • Notes:
    "Typhlon" is Greek for cecum
  • Associated With:
    Antineoplastic drugs
