Pericarditis

Pericarditis
  • Facts:
    MCC is viral (eg. coxsackievirus)
  • History / PE:
    Non-radiating, retrosternal pain, relived by leaning forward
    History of viral upper respiratory prodrome
    Low grade fever
  • Diagnosis:
    EKG shows diffuse ST segment elevation
    Elevated ESR
    ECHO for possible pericardial effusion
  • Treatment:
    NSAIDs
    Pericardiocentesis
    Hemodialysis (for uremic pericarditis)
