Polymyalgia rheumatica PMR

• History / PE:
  Pain and stiffness in neck, shoulders, and pelvic girdle
  Patient > 50yo
  Elevated ESR
  Fever
  Often associated with anemia
  Morning stiffness > 1hr
• Treatment:
  Low dose prednisone (10-20mg/day)
• Associated With:
  Temporal arteritis (giant cell arteritis)
• Differential Diagnosis:
  1) Thyroid myopathy ( hypothyroidism , hyperthyroidism )
  2) Polymyositis (anti-Jo-1 antibodies)
  3) Dermatomyositis (characteristic skin rash)
  4) Steroid-induced myopathy (normal ESR)
