Priapism

  • Facts:
    Persistent, painful erection that develops without sexual stimulation and has a long duration
  • Pneumonic:
    P riapism and P razosin
  • Associated With:
    1) Sickle cell disease and leukemia
    2) Perineal or genital trauma (laceration of cavernous artery)
    3) Neurogenic lesions (spinal cord injury, cauda equina syndrome )
    4) Medications (eg. trazadone, prazosin)
