Tumor lysis syndrome

  • Diagnosis:
    Hyper-phosphatemia \ hyper-kalemia \ hyper-uricemia
    Hypo-calcemia
  • Treatment:
    Allopurinol (decrease possibility of acute urate nephropathy)
  • Complications:
    Fatal arrhythymias
    Acute renal failure
    Sudden death
  • See Also:
    Hyperkalemia
  • Associated With:
    Poorly differentiated tumors (eg. Burkitt's lymphoma)
    Leukemias (especially ALL, less often AML)
