von Willebrand's disease vWD

• Facts:
  MC inherited bleeding disorder (1% of population affected)
  Autosomal dominant
  Deficient/defective von Willebrand Factor (vWF) with low levels of factor VIII (carried by vWF
  Symptoms due to platelet dysfunction (milder than hemophilia)
  
• History / PE:
  Easy brusing
  Mucosal bleeding
  
• Diagnosis:
  Family history
  Normal platelet and PT time
  Prolonged aPTT (factor VIII deficiency)
  Ristocetin cofactor assay
• Treatment:
  DDAVP
  Menorrhagia treated with OCPs
• Notes:
  ASA increases the risk of bleeding with vWD
