    Caused by motor dysfunction and incoordination
    Develops above the UES, by herniating posteriorly between the fibers of cricopharyngeal muscle
  • History / PE:
    Neck mass
    Oropharyngeal dysphagia
    Regurgitation
    Foul-smelling breath
  • Diagnosis:
    Barium swallow (contrast esophagram)
  • Treatment:
    Cricopharyngeal myotomy
  • Complications:
    Tracheal compression
    Regurgitation
    Pulmonary aspiration
