Cavernous sinus thrombosis CST

  • Facts:
    Most cases secondary to infection located in the medial aspect of the face around the eyes and nose
  • History / PE:
    Headache, low grade fever
    Bilateral periorbital edema
    Double vision (CN palsy)
  • Diagnosis:
    MRI or CT of orbits with contrast
  • Treatment:
    Broad spectrum antibiotics
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    Orbital cellulitis (B/L periorbital edema and CN palsies rare)
    Acute angle-closure glaucoma
    Brain abscess (no eye symptoms)
