Cryptorchidism

Failure of one or both testes to descend; low birth weight is a factor

  • History / PE:
Bilateral cryptorchidism associated with prematuriity, oligospermia, congenital malformation syndromes ( Prader-Willi syndrome , Noonan syndrome ), and infertility
  • Treatment:
Orchioplexy by 6-12 months; if discovered later, treat with orchiectomy to avoid risk of testicular cancer
  • Notes:
Bringing down the testes into scrotum does NOT decrease the risk of testicular cancer
