Pathological activation of clotting factors, that leads to the formation of small blood clots within the blood vessels
History / PE
:
Extensive bleeding (from venipuncture site, surgical wounds)
Renal failure
Diagnosis
:
Prolonged PT, PTT
Increased in fibrin split products (d-dimer)
Decreased hematocrit, platelets
Treatment
:
Underlying pathology/disorder
Platelet transfusion,
cryoprecipitate
(coagulopathy)
Aminocaproic acid (second line)
Associated With
:
1) Pregnancy (
placental abruption
, amniotic fluid embolism)
2) Major trauma / burns
3)
Sepsis
4) Malignancy
