Gastroschisis

• Facts:
  Congenital abdominal wall defect
• Diagnosis:
  Antenatally with increased levels of MSAFP
  Bowel looks "angry and matted"
  Bowel NOT covered with protective membrane
  Bowel protrudes through defect on R side of umbilical cord
• Treatment:
  Immediately wrap bowel in sterile dressing and plastic wrap
• Differential Diagnosis:
  Omphalocele
