Hepatitis A

  • Facts:
    RNA picornavirus with an average incubation period of 30 days
    Transmission occurs via fecal-oral route
    Self-imiting disease, does not progress to chronic hepatitis , cirrhosis , or HCC
  • History / PE:
    Acute onset
    Malaise, fatigue, anorexia, nausea
    Hepatomegaly
  • Diagnosis:
    AST/ALT spike early on, followed by increases in bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase
  • Treatment:
    Supportive
    Full recovery expected within 3-6 weeks
