HSV retinitis

  • Facts:
    Severe, devastating intraocular inflammation
  • History / PE:
    1) Acute retinal necrosis syndrome (rapidly progressing bilateral necrotizing retinitis)

    2) Keratitis (inflammation of the cornea) and conjunctivitis

    3) Painful loss of vision
  • Diagnosis:
    Widespread, pale, peripheral lesions and central retinal necrosis
  • Associated With:
    Immunocompromised patients
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    VCV retinitis
    CMV retinitis (painLESS, no conjunctivitis or keratitis)
