Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma NHL

  • Facts:
    Progressive clonal expansion of B cells, T cells, NK cells

    1.) Stimulated by chromosomal translocations, MC is t (14, 18)
    2.) Inactivation of tumor suppressor genes
    3.) Introduction of exogenous genes by oncogenic viruses (eg. EBV, HTLV-1, HCV)
  • History / PE:
    More common in women ( HD more common in men)
    Systemic adenopathy
  • Diagnosis:
    Excisional lymph node biopsy
    Disease staging (Ann Arbor classification)
  • Treatment:
    Cyclophosphamide (cytoxan), adriamycin, oncovin (voncristine), and prednisone [CHOP]
  • Complications:
    Tumor lysis syndrome
  • Notes:
    5 times MC than Hodgkin's lymphoma
    Most NHL's are of B cell origin (85%)
