  • Facts:
    Interfere with cell wall synthesis by inhibition of peptidoglycan cross-linking

    Penicillin gets more anaerobes than cephalosporins ; both get Group A Strep and spirochetes
  • Indications:
    Ample spectrum (penicillinase sensitive)

    1) Amoxicillin (Amoxil) and Ampicillin (Omnipen) HELPS+
    H. Influenza , E. Coli, L isteria, P roteus, S almonella

    + Amoxicillin kills Enterococcus (GDS—UTI’s)

    2) Piperacillin (Piperacil)
    3) Ticarcillin (Ticar)

    Penicillins and B lactamase inhibitors

    1) Amoxicillin / Clavulanic acid ( Augmentin )
    2) Ampicillin / Sulbactam (Unasyn)
    3) Pen G
    4) Pen V
    5) Piperacillin / Tazobactam (Zosyn)
    6) Ticarcillin / Clavulanic acid (Timentin)
    7) Methicillin / Naficillin / Dicloxacillin (for S.Aureus)
