  • Facts:
    Grossly visible protrusion from the flat mucosal surface of the intestine

    Hyperplastic polyps
    Arise from hyperplastic mucosal proliferation
    No further workup needed

    Harmartomatous polyps
    Juvenile polyp (non-malgnant, removed for risk of bleeding)
    Peutz Jeghers polyp (generally non-malignant)

    Adenoma
    MC type of polyp found in colon
    Less than 1% progress to malignancy
    Malignancy based on histology, size, and appearance
    1) Sessile
    2) Villous > tubulovillous > tubular
    3) Size > 2.5cm

    Colonoscopy
