Premature ovarian failure

  • Facts:
    Lack viable oocytes
    Commonly idiopathic
  • History / PE:
    Women younger than 40 years old
    Amenorrhea
    Hypoestrogenism
  • Diagnosis:
    Increased FSH/LH, decreased estrogen
  • Treatment:
    Infertility (in vitro)
  • Notes:
    FSH:LH ratio usually > 1.0 (takes longer for FSH to be cleared from circulation)
