Diagnosis

CT/MRI negative for masses (may see empty sella)
Intracranial HTN
Shrunken ventricles (MRI)
Increased opening pressure
Treatment
:
A
cetazolamide (inhibits choroid plexus carbonic anhydrase)
CSF draining
Lumboperitoneal shunting
Complications
:
Permanent
vision loss
Associated With
:
Isotrentinoin
(used for acne vulgaris)
Large doses of vitamin A
Tetracyclines
Steroid withdrawal
Empty sella syndrome
Differential Diagnosis
:
Normal pressure hydrocephalus
(enlarged ventricles)
