Normal pressure hydrocephalus
  • Facts:
    Decreased CSF absorption or transient increases in intracranial pressure that can cause permanent ventricular enlargement without chronically increasing intracranial pressure
  • History / PE:
    Urinary incontinence (fecal later on)
    Dementia (memory loss)
    Gait disturbance (borad based gait)
  • Diagnosis:
    Enlarged ventricles
    Normal CSF opening pressure
  • Treatment:
    Repeated spinal taps
    Ventriculo-perintoneal shunt
  • Pneumonic:
    "Wet, wobbly, and weird"

    Pseudotumor cerebri (shrunken ventricles)
    Parkinson's disease (no arm swing in gait)
