Restless leg syndrome
  • Facts:
    Common in middle aged and older patients
    Thought to involve abnormalities of dopaminergic transmission
  • History / PE:
    Uncomfortable sensation or urge to move legs
    Discomfort that worsens in the evening/during sleep
    Discomfort that worsens at rest
    Discomfort alleviated by movement of the affected limbs(s)
  • Treatment:
    Dopamine agonists (eg. pramipexole, ropinerole) or L-dopa
  • Associated With:
    Chronic kidney disease
    Iron deficiency anemia
