  • Facts:
    Usually drug induced
    Exfoliative mucocutaneous disease
    Involves immune complex mediated hypersensitivity
  • History / PE:
    1) Degeneration of the basal layer of the epidermis
    2) Target shaped, mucocutaneous lesions
    3) Signs of systemic toxicity (fever, hypotension, AMS, conjunctivitis, seizures, coma)
  • Diagnosis:
    Less than 10% of body surface area involved
  • Associated With:
    NNRTIs( HIV therapy )
    Penicillin
    Sulfonamides
    Seizure medications (eg. phenytoin )
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    Staphylococcal scalded-skin syndrome
    Erythema multiforme
    Toxic epidermal necrolysis
