Chronic myelogenous leukemia CML

  • Facts:
    Clonal expansion of myeloid progenitor cells
    Affects middle aged patients
    DIvided into 3 phases
  • History / PE:
    Splenomegaly
    RUQ pain
    Constitutional symptoms
  • Diagnosis:
    Philadelphia chromosome t(9,22)
    BCR-ABL translocation
    Low leukocyte alkaline phosphatase (LAP)
  • Treatment:
    Imatinib (gleevac, BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitor)
  • Complications:
    May progress to acute myelogenous leukemia (AML)
