  • Facts:
    MC in young adults (presents with new onset HTN), also seen in premenopausal women
    Leads to renovascular hypertension secondary to renal artery stenosis
  • History / PE:
    Hum/bruit in the costovertebral angle (well developed collaterals)
    Headache, hypertension
    Renal bruit
  • Diagnosis:
    "String of beads" pattern to renal artery (angiography)
  • Treatment:
    Percutaneous angioplasty and stent placement
  • Notes:
    Right renal artery is more affected than the left
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    Pheochromocytoma
    Turner's syndrome
    Renal artery stenosis (atherosclerosis)
