Orbital cellulitis
  • Facts:
    Infection involving the fat and muscles within the orbit
  • History / PE:
    Swollen, painful eye
    Fever
    Decreased visual acuity
    Protrusion of eyeball (proptosis)
  • Diagnosis:
    CT scan
  • Differential Diagnosis:
    Preseptal cellulitis (no decrease in visual acuity)
    Anterior uveitis (no eyelid involvement)
    Cavernous sinus thrombosis (bilateral symptoms)
    Conjunctivitis (no pain with eye movements)
