    Common cause of periphery sensory problems in diabetics
    Symmetric stocking and glove sensory loss (affects LMN)
  • History / PE:
    Numbness, tingling
    Motor symptoms (late, severe diabetic neuropathy )
  • Diagnosis:
    Nerve conduction studies
    Spine MRI (rule out cord compression)
  • Treatment:
    Gabapentin and amitriptyline
  • Notes:
    Hyperactive reflexes, Babinski sign are suggestive of UMN problem
